Job Profile:
Provide educational support for the children and young people who are in the care of Greenwich Council (referred to as looked after children).
Work collaboratively with schools, the Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and other education providers to track the academic progress of all looked after children (LAC).
Work alongside schools, the PRU and other education establishments to set individual targets for all LAC. Liaise closely with the Greenwich Education Inspection and Advisory Service on issues relating to individual pupils, and to set overall attainment targets for the borough?s LAC. Arrange as appropriate for educational support to LAC leading up to and throughout national examinations and tests, e.g., SATs, GCSEs and GNVQs. Liaise with Education Psychologists, Special Needs Officers/co-coordinators to ensure all Greenwich LAC with special educational needs gain access to appropriate education and necessary support.
Candidate Profile:
Recognised teaching qualification Three years experience of direct practice with children in an education setting within the age range 5-16 years Experience of working with children from ethnic minority backgrounds in an inner city setting Secure knowledge and experience of the National Curriculum and assessment procedures
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with a wide range of professionals, children and Carers. Ability to develop education support plans Ability to collate and analyse statistical data Comprehensive understanding of the Authority?s responsibilities in respect of young people in care and their educational needs and attainment - including relevant legislation and policies affecting education and social care.
